A quick biography and philosophy, Growing up in Northeastern Iowa, Kreig spent many days in the outdoors and would then spend his evenings reflecting the day’s events with pencil and brush. After years of support from family and friends, Kreig made the decision to go professional in 2004. His decision paid off the first part of 2007. Kreig won the 2007 Iowa Ducks Unlimited Print of the Year, and a month later he was notified by the Oregon DNR that his artwork was chosen as their Upland Game Bird Stamp. In May, Kreig was notified by the Idaho Ducks Unlimited that he had been chosen as the 2007-2008 Idaho Artist of the Year, and his painting depicting a wood duck in a backwater setting was chosen for the Print of the Year. Kreig has also won People’s Choice Awards and Judges Choice awards in local shows. When asked why he chose wildlife to paint, Kreig replies, “Because of the infinite number of ways an artist can render textures and lighting. Just a walk through my front yard or a boat ride can reveal some very abstract views of texture and shape.” When you view any of Kreig’s works, you definitely get an understanding of his fascination with texture and light. To get it right Kreig spends many hours a field studying his subjects and photographing them. It’s important to Kreig to not only make sure the subject’s form is correct but in an authentic habitat.Kreig invites you to check out his website.
